Nowra is the biggest town on the Shoalhaven and the housing stock reflects that. Central Nowra and Bomaderry are mostly established suburban homes with mature trees, plenty of tile and Colorbond, and older quad gutters. Move a few minutes out and you are into North Nowra, Cambewarra, Terara and Worrigee, where properties sit on larger blocks with real bushland at the fence line. Every one of those settings needs a slightly different gutter protection strategy.
Bushfire risk is the single biggest local factor to plan for. Large parts of the Shoalhaven LGA sit in BAL-rated zones under AS3959, especially properties adjoining Cambewarra Mountain, Bamarang, Yerriyong and the state forests west of the highway. In those areas ember-rated mesh is not optional, it is the mesh we would choose for our own family homes. A finer aperture stops embers landing in leaf-choked gutters, which remains one of the leading ways houses ignite during a serious fire.
The other thing about Nowra is the tree species. Spotted gum, blackbutt, ironbark and stringybark all drop heavily through spring and summer, and the bark alone can block downpipes even faster than leaves. That combination of heavy debris load and bushfire exposure is why we install more BAL-rated ember mesh in the Shoalhaven than almost anywhere else on our patch.

How do I know if my Nowra property needs ember-rated mesh?
Your council BAL rating (Bushfire Attack Level under AS3959) is the definitive answer. Properties in BAL-12.5 and above generally need ember-rated mesh, and BAL-40 and BAL-FZ definitely do. During the free on-site quote we look at your surrounds, distance from bushland and slope, and confirm the right product for you.
Do you install on rural blocks outside central Nowra?
Yes. We regularly install in Cambewarra, Terara, Worrigee, Yerriyong and out toward Kangaroo Valley. Larger rural blocks are quoted on the same fixed-price basis as suburban jobs, no extra travel loading.
Is eucalypt bark really that bad for gutters?
It is arguably worse than leaves. Long strips of shed stringybark and spotted gum bark can bridge across a gutter and jam a downpipe entry solid. That is one of the reasons we recommend a higher-flow mesh with a slightly larger aperture on Shoalhaven properties surrounded by mature eucalypts.
Can I combine ember mesh with bird proofing on the same install?
Yes. Ember mesh already blocks most birds and rodents from gutters, and we can add valley and eave mesh, dutch gable infills and downpipe strainers in the same visit to seal the whole roof line.
